Our Boy
Scout Summer Camp will be held on June 20-28, 2009. This
event is important for the scouts for
advancement and should be a lot of fun. For more information

Troop
610 had its first official meeting on
November 5th, 2002. The troop was started by Scoutmaster Mike Landry
and Committee Chairman Steve Scariano. Mike and Steve are both charter
members of the Knights of Columbus Council # 12529 at St. Jane de
Chantal Catholic Church in Abita Springs, LA. The troop meets every
Tuesday night at 7:00 PM at St. Joseph’s Hall (the old Abita post
office building) across the street from the church. Each month the
troop has an activity such as camping, hiking, field trips, community
service projects, and merit badges.

To All Campers,
We will be sleeping in wall tents that will sleep two scouts each. They have cots/bunk frames with mattress. You might want to bring bottom and top sheets as well a blanket or sleeping bag. The nights could get into the 60's or 70's. There are no mosquitos, but they do have ticks and chiggers. I find Gold Bond products work for prevention of all bugs. I will purchase new first aid supplies for the trip. Let me know if one of the scouts need special attention. Another good idea is having a black marker for each scout to put their names in T-shirts that will be given out and for items that they may buy at the Trading Post. Most scouts love to spend money, and if you give them $200.00, most boys will spend it in the first two days. A good idea is put small bills in an envelope with their name on the outside with a withdraw card and had it to me or another adult going on the trip. With your instructions, we will spread the money to last the week. $40 to $60 is usually what most boys spend. Hopefully the troop red shirts will be in for Friday.

To All,
I had a lot of people asking about uniforms and proper clothes for camp. First, everyone must wear their full uniform before we leave for camp. This is the best way to be sure everyone did not forget any part of the Boy Scout Uniform. We will have a shake down before we leave. Once we get on the road, the scouts can wear the red T-shirts. By wearing the uniform or red shirts, helps control any missing people at rest stops or gas stations. I have never lost anyone and don't plan to. Plus it looks great, and BSA require scouts to wear it while traveling.
All BSA summer camps require everyone to wear the full uniform at Flag Ceremonies, supper, campfires, and special times. I do realize that the uniforms are high in price. I had five sons and myself wearing uniforms and spending money for camp outs for many years. Our Troop has a recycle box. Please remember to donate to the box when your son grows up. We will take them in any condition. When buying a new uniform, it is a good idea to purchase a larger item, so your son will grow into them. I do not recommend buying long green scout pants when the boys are young. As you know they grow up fast. For new Cub Scouts, they can wear their uniforms and T-shirts.
The clothes that the boys wear during merit badges, breakfast, lunch, and other activities can be any shirt and pants of their choice. Just be sure they do not have any vulgarity or inappropriate words or pictures.
Class "A" Uniform --- Tan BSA shirt (buttoned and tucked in) with appropriate insignia and patches. BSA olive colored pants or shorts- BSA green belt and BSA buckle, scout socks; optional scout cap or scout related cap. Any other cap is not unacceptable. This is the dress uniform used for Court of Honors, flag ceremony, supper, trips, and special occasions.
Class "B" Uniform --- Our Troop uses the red scout polo shirt or the red tee shirt with the Troop 610 logo. Also the same pants or shorts, belts, and socks. We use this uniform at summer camps, camp outs, troop activities, and regular meetings. The red shirts make our troop healthy and strong and we do not lose anyone in crowds, and trips.
Class "C" Uniform --- Any clothes except vulgarity or inappropriate words or pictures.
